Abstract
Allama Iqbal, in third lecture of his book The Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam, has mentioned the atomic theory of Asharites while explaining the relationship of God's process of creation with creation. Allama Iqbal, while describing the various aspects of Asharites' atomic theory has not only highlighted the positive aspects of their theory, but has also pointed out several fundamental defects of this theory and pointed to the aspects as well on which modern Muslim theologians should pursue their research. Asharites rejected the classical view by stating an atomic theory of their own and highlighted the Qur'anic view of creation of the universe. However, according to Allama Iqbal, there are many defects in this theory, in which the major defect is establishing a boundary between the material atom and the temporal atom, due to which the organic relationship between them has ended. Allama Iqbal says that the reality of the universe is spiritual. If the doctrine of Asharites is to be advanced on spiritual lines in the context of the same reality of the universe rather than on material lines, then we have to continue our research to restore the organic relation between the material atom and the atom of time.
