Abstract

This paper argues that the education and moral formation of contemporary youth must be prioritized by all social institutions-schools, families, and civic organizations and that current neglect, primarily due to parental and institutional complacency, has reduced young people to functional, machine-like beings deprived of core human values. Through a critical review of Allama Iqbal's poetic and philosophical writings, the study examines the conceptual distinction and interdependence of "education" (transfer of knowledge and guidance) and "training" (moral and character formation), and foregrounds Iqbal's insistence that knowledge must produce inner ardor, ethical sensitivity, and spiritual conviction rather than mere credentials. Drawing on Iqbal's philosophy of Khudi (selfhood), the paper contends that authentic education integrates intellectual, moral, and spiritual dimensions so that youth recover their individuality, moral courage, and life-purpose instead of being confined to narrow economic roles. The analysis highlights the necessity of strengthening conviction (yaqin) and praxis, reorienting curricula around religious and ethical foundations, empowering teachers as exemplary moral agents, and actively involving parents in upbringing. Practical recommendations include curricular integration of Iqbalian themes, experiential pedagogies, parental-school partnerships, and extra-curricular programs to cultivate self-confidence, civic responsibility, and spiritual vitality among the new generation. The study concludes that implementing these measures is essential for reviving communal dignity and producing morally grounded, purposeful citizens.
