Elements of Western Modernism and Artificial Intelligence in the Context of Philosophical Thougths of Iqbal

This research paper analyses Allama Iqbal’s philosophical views about Islam and Jadidiat or Modernity in the light of Age of Artificial Intelligence or AI in the hope to chart new ways for further studies in his thoughts. This paper employs a qualitative research method in order to establish how Iqbal envisaged Islam as a living tradition capable of registering interesting with modernity. Focusing on Iqbal’s approach toward emergence of the Islamic mysticism with the sciences, the paper investigates the potential of his thought for reflecting on the ethics of AI. A dilemma of modern meaning of khudi or selfhood is discussed to comprehend how elements of Iqbal’s philosophical system call for moral inspiration in the contexts of AI-dominated age. Consequently, this study discusses the applicability of Iqbal’s thought to modern technological transference of the subject, the goal of presenting possible ways for an Islamic integration of AI based on the either/or dichotomy and faith.
