Abstract

This article introduces Allama Iqbal's poem Zauq-o-Shaoq, drawing a thematic comparison between it and his famous poem Masjid-e-Qurtuba. The author suggests that these two poems form two poles in Iqbal's poetic universe: Masjid-e-Qurtuba reflects man's relationship with God, while Zauq-o-Shaoq reflects man's connection with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Through these poems, Iqbal fully expresses his connection with both God and the Prophet, demonstrating the highest intellectual and emotional engagement. Zauq-o-Shaoq follows the classical Persian qasida technique, where nature is portrayed from a holistic perspective, showing both its complete form and deeper meanings. Iqbal presents nature from a vast and inclusive angle, reflecting not only its external beauty but also its hidden spiritual significance. This panoramic view of the desert, morning, and sunlight represents a broader universal context, where heart and mind come together. The heart perceives the deeper meanings, while the eye comprehends the outward form, showcasing the harmonious relationship between man and nature.
