کلام ِ اقبال میں تصوّر ِ عقل و عشق : ایک مطالعہ
Abstract
In this article, the author explores the concepts of reason (Aqal) and love (Ishq) in the poetry and philosophy of Allama Iqbal. Iqbal, a renowned philosopher and poet of the 20th century, deeply integrated the themes of spirituality, self-realization, and intellectualism into his works. The study examines Iqbal’s belief in the supremacy of reason (Ishq) over love (Aqal), asserting that while reason tends to focus on worldly calculations, love (Ishq) transcends material limitations and drives humanity toward higher spiritual and existential goals. The article contrasts Iqbal’s understanding of love (Ishq) with previous Urdu and Persian poets, who often portrayed love (Ishq) as leading to suffering and madness. Iqbal redefines it as a force of life, continuity, and action. For him, love (Ishq) is the ultimate creative power of the universe, the source of all progress, and the essential fuel for personal and collective growth. In opposition to reason (Aqal), which can lead to hesitation and doubt, love (Ishq) brings certainty, passion, and the strength to pursue truth and self-realization without fear. Additionally, the article delves into the philosophical dualism of love (Ishq) and reason (Aqal), highlighting how Iqbal values both but emphasizes the spiritual completeness and eternal wisdom that love (Ishq) offers. Through his poetry, Iqbal encourages Muslims to embrace love (Ishq) as a transformative force to reclaim their past glory and reach new heights of success and enlightenment. Ultimately, Iqbal's concept of love (Ishq) promotes perseverance, self-actualization, and an active struggle for higher ideals, positioning it as the driving force behind all human achievement and universal harmony.
