Abstract

Muhammad Iqbal is considered one of the most influential poets of the Muslim world. Despite being a prolific poet, Iqbal gained more fame and recognition as a philosopher and an intellectual. Due to the dissemination of his works in major international languages, Iqbal gained large traction in the Arab world and left a strong impression on towering figures of the Muslim world, such as Taha Hussain, Abdul Wahab Azzam, Syed Qutb, Ahmad Hassan Ziyad, Abul Hassan Nadwi and others.  This paper traces the intellectual foundations of Iqbal’s philosophy and his contribution to development of contemporary Islamic thought.
